Bloomsburg-
BloomUtoday.com has confirmed that two people have been shot and killed inside the Applebee's restaurant on Route 11 near Bloomsburg.
Bloomsburg Police Chief Leo Sokoloski told BloomUtoday.com that the alleged shooter is one of the two people confirmed dead. District Attorney Gary Norton said the public is in no danger. However they stopped short of saying that it was a murder-suicide. The Columbia County Coroner and Deputy Coroner were on the scene.
Police say the shooting took place inside the restaurant just after 4:00 P.M., and other customers as well as workers witnessed the shooting.
Police also towed two vehicles from the restaurant's parking lot.

this is pretty terrifying. when i applied to bloom 4 years ago, they were said to be one of the safest schools on campus. Now we have incidents every week of an assault or a rape. now a shooting with people killed? this is getting absolutely rediculous. even though this situation may not have been prevented, i feel that the bloomsburg police have to take personal safety as a main concern. There needs to be police ON FOOT around campus and the town of bloomsburg at night, not just rolling around in their brand new SVU's. Its time for bloom to have a public safety unit because i DO NOT feel safe anymore as a student walking around town or even on campus at night.

yeah they'll post 2 officers in every restaurant to make sure things like this don't happen. haha. seriously, though, something needs to be done in bloomsburg. it's becoming ridiculously unsafe.

How do you expect the police to be everywhere all the time. Should we have a policeman in every business, apartment building and home within the town of Bloomsburg? There is no way that they could have know or anticipated any of this. As far as attacks and rapes, you need to make sure that you do not put yourself in a dangerous situation. Just hope that you never need to make the call to 911 for yourself because it seems to me that you would blame the police for something that they had no control over. By the way, if you have spent the last 4 years at Bloomsburg University and are ignorant enough to make a post like you did, I am worried about the future of our country with people like you being a part of it.

As a student at Bloomsburg, I can agree that it has become non safe to be there. Even walking to Late night sometimes, its scary when the lights are sometimes off, and to the mom that put a comment just previously, sometimes people dont put themselves in the situation, its idiots who cant control themselves or dont know how to act or behave that do crazy things.

WTF are those people smiling? A murder/suicide at 4 PM in Bloomsburg at an Applebee's is something to SMILE about? Therein lies part of the problem with the Bloomsburg police department. They take seriously underaged drinking and minor marijuana busts, but an armed robbery, brass-knuckle assault, and broad daylight public murder, ah, let's smile about this.

Does anyone know how we can make sure that the police department starts focusing on the increase in violence (and just plain addressing violent crimes) and leave off having police officers tackling Fake ID suspects outside of Good Ol' Days. I mean, seriously? How do we ask them to leave off the no harm, no foul of underage drinking and focus on what the hell is going on to turn Bloomsburg into such a crime-ridden place?

Working for the restaurant as well as a student at the university, I do not agree with the comments of the police being able to stop what happened. It was an isolated incident as I saw the entire thing happen (which I will regret I'm sure). Even if an officer was there, it happened so quickly nothing could have been done short of a metal detector which is just plain rediculous.
my heart goes out to the victim's family as well as to the gentleman who thought he was doing right by taking his own life.

As for the way the police were smiling and laughing. You do not know all the circumstances. What time was this filmed, etc. Having seen 50+ dead bodies from vehicle accidents and fires, I can tell you that people get this way when dealing with such a situation. For a town with a college, I wonder why some many people in Bloom are so damn ignorant. Events such as the Bloomsburg town and University condoned Block Party (read drunken free for all) are ridiculous. Responsible colleges and college towns DO NOT allow such things happen. The legal drinking age is 21. If you drink underage, then do it responsibly and don't be out making an ass of yourself and basically saying "Arrest me!!!!" The town and university have created the problems they have and you can bet they will only get worse because they are increasing the incoming class sizes.

I understand that this is Bloomsburg and things like this do not happen. And I am not trying to make this okay but this is an isolated event, and we should be able to take away from this that because there is such a big deal over one shooting that this do not happen. I am from the Philadelphia Area and every night on the news there is are many stories of people being gunned down. I am NOT condoning what happened at the Applebee's, but we all must take away that this type of thing is not a regular occurrence in Bloomsburg, for which we all should be glad.
