28 Students Displaced by Fire
BloomUtoday.com Staff Updated 10-27-09
Bloomsburg-
According to Bloomsburg University officials 28 students were displaced by the West Main Street fire as of last night. There have been no reports of any students hospitalized. The university has secured on-campus housing and food for the displaced students.
BU has a student catastrophic Husky Fund established. Anyone wanting to make a donation can make it payable to Husky Fund - student catastrophe or student fire victims. In addition, the Community Government Association and University Bookstore will provide textbooks and school supplies. Victims of the fire should visit the University Store with a list of items they need to continue in their course work this semester.
The SOLVE Office, Rec Center, Library and Greek Affairs will be conducting a clothing drive for the students affected by the recent fire. Due to the large need, we will simply take all donations and allow the students to select what is best for them, then distribute leftovers to the downtown non-profits. Clothing needs are sweatshirts, sweaters, jeans, jackets and gloves.
Checks for the Husky Fund can be mailed to:

There are also drop boxes being located around campus for clothing donations. They will be up for the next few weeks at the solve office, library and rec center.

One more reason why off-campus housing must be protected by fire sprinklers.

What was your reason?
Whatever your reason then shouldn't all housing be protected for the same reason?
Does your house have sprinklers?

The reason is that in a building with several units, I have to count on you to be safety conscious to prevent a fire from starting. Your poor judgment directly affects my safey in a mult family dwelling. In may own house, I can rely on my better judgment.

Weak reply. Most multi unit buildings do not house students. If we used your reasoning then should not all multi unit buildings have sprinklers?
Why should singles be any different? Is the safety of a person living in a single less important?

Yes all multi unit building should have sprinklers. There should be a law. Single dwellings should be up to the owner.

Another weak reply.
Your initial point was off campus student housing should have sprinklers. Now it is multi unilt buildings. If we use your new arguement then students living in singles, fraternities, sororities don't need sprinklers, right? On the other hand using YOUR arguement townies living in multi unit dwellings like all the apts on Country Club Blvd and everything on Main do need sprinklers.
Keep trying.

If a house is on fire at 3am does it really matter who started the fire? If a tenant/owner's life is on the line is the priority assigning blame or saving the person's life?
How about the people that live in singles and are safety consious and their house catches fire because of no fault of their own? A few years ago over spring break a house(a single which would not require sprinkers using your logic) burned down because a car clipped the side of the house where the electric meter was hooked up. An electrical fire burned the house to the ground.

You must be talking to someone else, because I never make an intial point. I am only responding to your defense of doing nothing. Let's at least have sprinklers in apartment buildings or do you own one, you cheap SOB.

No I don't own one.
If I did own one I would not be paying for the sprinkler. It would be the tenants that would eventually pay for the sprinklers on top of all the false alarms.
Do you or your parents live in a house? Do you have sprinklers you cheap SOB?

I live in an apartment with a sprinkler system. My landlord includes this cost in the rent, along with water and sewer.
