Walmart Surveillance photos of the suspects and getaway car.

Bloomsburg-

On December 22, 2009 at approximately 3:34 AM two White Males entered the Walmart Super Center, located at exit 232 (Buckhorn) of I-80, Bloomsburg, Hemlock Township, Columbia County, and departed the store with 4 Samsung 32" LCD TVs, model #LN32B360.

One of the men was wearing a striped polo shirt and had a distinctive widow's peak or V-shaped hairline. He also appeared to have a cast or large Ace bandage on his right arm, from his wrist to above his elbow police said.

The other suspect had a knit cap with white lettering and a lettered hoodie, possibly from American Eagle according to police.

The suspects were transported to the store in a mid size white 4 dour sedan, possibly a Saturn, occupied by at least one other individual. If anyone has information on the theft contact Hemlock Township Police at (570) 784-6543 or email police@hemlocktownship.org.

Ripped from the Headlines -
Greed, Corruption, and Hate Crimes in NEPA

Walter Brasch 22.DEC.09

di*ck Wolf, who created Law & Order and its two successful spin-offs, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, should probably consider establishing a branch office in Pennsylvania.

It seems that whenever any of the New York City cops take a road trip to find a fugitive or track down a witness, they go to Pennsylvania. Apparently, New Jersey is only a buffer zone.

Part of the reason why Pennsylvania routinely figures into the hour-long dramas may be because Wolf, a New Yorker, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. Another possibility, although much more remote, may be because his first of three wives was named Susan Scranton.

Nevertheless, Pennsylvania has been the site of sufficient plots the past couple of years as the three TV series have increased their levels of social consciousness.

Pennsylvanias attorney general has already issued 25 arrest warrants for state legislators and their aides of both political partiesincluding former House Speaker John Perzel, a Republican, and Bill DeWeese, the House Democratic majority leader. They are accused of a variety of charges, including theft, conflict of interest, obstruction, and conspiracy.

But it is northeastern Pennsylvania that is fertile ground for the writers. Luzerne County, with Wilkes-Barre as the county seat, has provided the background for an episode of Law & Order: SVU. The episode aired in May 2009 had a plot set in New York City but featured Pennsylvania misconduct that included an undercurrent of corrupt judges who took kickbacks for sentencing juveniles to a privately-run juvenile detention center. (An episode of ABC-TVs The Good Wife, which aired in December 2009, also featured the plot about a corrupt judge who sent cases to a private detention center.) When that plot finally plays out, there are also stories to be developed about corrupt courthouse officials, corrupt school board officials and, just recently, the vice-chair of the county board of commissioners, a former pro football player, who accepted a bribe.

Nearby Schuylkill County, specifically the people of Shenandoah, played a critical part in an April 2009 Law & Order hate crime story about the beating and murder by teens of an undocumented Hispanic worker. In Shenandoah, 25-year-old Luis Eduardo Ramirez Zavala, an undocumented Mexican with no criminal history, was beaten by a gang of high school football players in July 2008. In the Law & Order episode, the victim was also an undocumented Hispanic who was targeted by a gang of high school basketball players who had anonymously made a video, Beaner Hunt: Taking Back America One Street at a Time. In both the Ramirez Zavala case and the fictional Law & Order case, a mother covers up evidence; people in the town spew racial hatred, with many claiming if the victim wasnt an illegal, he would still be alive; a windbag TV pundit rants about illegals taking over the country; and a jury refuses to present a guilty verdict on all but the least of the charges against the teens.

The Ramirez Zavala murder is likely to provide seed for several more episodes. This past week, the FBI arrested two teens who had been convicted by an all-White jury only of simple assault, and four police officers, including the chief. Derrick Donchak, 19, and Brandon Piekarski, 18, are charged with federal hate crimes. A third teen, Colin J. Walsh, had accepted a plea bargain and is in federal prison. Among the charges against Chief Matthew Nestor, Lt. William Moyer, and Officer Jason Hayes are conspiracy to obstruct justice for allegedly manipulating and covering up the facts of the murder; Moyer was also charged with witness and evidence tampering and providing false testimony to the FBI. In an unrelated case, Nestor and Capt. James Gennarini are charged with several counts of extortion and civil rights violations in illegal gambling operations. An unindicted co-conspirator is Brandon Piekarskys mother, Tammy, who was dating Officer Hayes. U.S. District Court judge Malachy Mannion at the arraignment said that the evidence against the officers was strong, and that they depict a vile set of activities.

Another Law & Order episode could focus upon the death of 18-year-old David Vega, who Shenandoah police claimed hanged himself in the towns jail in November 2004. The police could have issued a citation to Vega, who was arguing about a GiantsEagles football game with friends and relatives, all of whom were vocal, none of whom had attacked anyone. But, the police arrested Vega, locked him in the town jail, and then within two hours claimed he had committed suicide by hanging. A more realistic story would be the brutal beating by racist police and a subsequent cover-up, combined with the coroner accepting the police version. No charges were filed against Chief Matthew Nestor; Capt. Raymond Nestor (the chiefs father), or James Gennarini, who are alleged to have beaten Vega. Vegas parents, however, have filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Attorney John P. Karoly, Allentown, says that based upon an independent investigation and several depositions, there is significant evidence to back up charges against the police. The suit charges that an independent second autopsy confirmed that Vega suffered extensive, massive injuries consistent with a profound beating and did not die of hanging.

Police neglect and an attack upon David N. Murphy Sr., an Afro-American, who was recovering at home from spinal fusion surgery, could be the base of another episode. In March 2009, according to a civil law suit filed by Karoly in federal court, Chief Matthew Nestor and Officer George Carado, who lied about having a warrant, arrested Murphy on a claim he was selling prescription medicine to his wife, refused to allow him to take needed medication, punched him in his back, and left him alone overnight in the police station. During the night, Murphy had a heart attack and lay on the floor several hours crying out in pain. However, before seeking medical treatment, Shenandoah police took Murphy for arraignment before a district justice. The DJ ordered the police to take Murphy to a hospital. Instead, the police, according to Karoly, who is also Murphys attorney, took him to the Schuylkill County prison. Only when the prison wouldnt admit him because of his medical condition did Shenandoah police take the victim to a hospital.

In a sworn affidavit, Murphy says Nestor told him that the police would harass me and put me in jail as soon as I come to Shenandoah if I filed a lawsuit or tried to press charges on him, and that if Murphy filed suit, I wouldnt make it out of the police stations cells next time. The complaint further alleges that Nestor said I could end up like the Mexican that hung himself, that tapes can be erased or edited. (The Shenandoah police station did not have surveillance cameras at the time of Vegas death.)

Law & Order writers could also look at a suicide in Coaldale, about 20 miles east of Shenandoah. James Hill, 17, was visiting Greg Altenbach and his parents in January 2004. A corrupt police chief performed only a cursory investigation and decided that Hill committed suicide with a .22 semi-automatic rifle. However, Police Chief Shawn Nihen rejected a coroners report that concluded Hill couldnt have killed himself. Nihen, who was friends with the family in whose house Hill died, as well as Altenbachs mother, stepfather, and a friend who witnessed the accidental shooting, had tried to cover up evidence. Nihen also had known that Shawn Becker, the stepfather, was forbidden by the courts to have a gun in the house. Nihen and Coaldale police officer Michael Weaver were later convicted of planting evidence in several cases. Altenbach later acknowledged he had fired the gun, and is now in prison after conviction for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Future stories of Law and Order may continue to be ripped from the headlines, but in northeastern Pennsylvania, they are torn from greed and racial and cultural hatred.

So why arent all you dickheads calling the press enterprise and WBRE and bitching at them? They did the same thing but just as pictures instead of a video. and where do u see him in the car...because when that video was takin, he was already removed from the car and on his way to emergency. U guys need to get off the reporters back...he was just doing a job just like all of u assholes have jobs you go to everyday. He wasnt trying to be disrespectful at all and he certainly wasnt videotaping for his own enjoyment. U guys are the sicks ones for even thinking that. Yes this is a tragedy and he will be deeply missed. He had a unique personality all his own and every1 loved him. But his passing does not give the excuse to focus all ur anger on a NEWS REPORTER. Again...maybe u guys should go talk to the news stations and newspapers if u wanna bitch...they did the same exact thing. HELL THE VIDEO WAS ON THE 6oclock NEWS!

Im sorry if you all find it distasteful but It's news, this is no different than news you'd see on TV any night. I've seen accident footage like this on the 11 O'Clock news. Eric has a right to report the news and the people who say this is wrong have no real idea of what the 1st amendment is. And by the way it's hypocritical of you guys to not chastize the TV programs who run the same kinds of stories on their stations and websites. So until youre willing to judge all like you judge this site then you need to take a look in the mirror

Can't you read he posted his name and title. Why isn't anyone asking what the hell happened to cause this kind of accident the speed limit was only 35 mph and it is obvious that wasn't being followed. Was there drinking involved? Was he running from the police? Did the accelerator get stuck? There are a ton of questions that no one is answering. This wasn't exactly a sharp turn unless something else caused it to be. People say accidents happen but a lot of them are preventable. Blaming other people for stuff isn't going to bring anyone back. Learn from this hard lesson because if you forget you might end up just like this.

It's obvious you don't understand or even have any experience with dealing with someone's death. It is hurtful for people to lose loved ones, and devastating for a community to lose a respected one that way. The very idea of having the public be able to view a video of a tragedy's aftermath makes that pain a lot worse. Just because it isn't illegal doesn't mean it's acceptable.

Besides, who the hell are you? Seems you're too cowardly to even post your name here as well.

I am not going to make any excuses for this video footage of this news report. Tragedy is always a difficult event to cover however there are still questions that need to be asked and things to be learned from this and every incident.

For those who think we are not the real media you are wrong. Every major event in the last 4 years has been covered the same way whether it has been good or bad. The truth and accuracy of what happens is the top priority on how things are shown. We also made sure in this case that it was something that was acceptable among print and TV media since they are the affiliates that also may use the footage to report on the incident.

We partner with TV networks such as WNEP, WBRE, CNN, and FOX for events that happen throughout the year. This is our job and I take reporting the news seriously. You will get no apology or even a retraction from TV or our print competitors.

However we do care. So that is why after reviewing all the comments and replies on YouTube and here the video has been removed. The use of Youtube seems to shock some people even though it is now an acceptable way to post thousands of videos related to news footage.

I think in this case is interesting how there is such an outcry for something on Youtube which is just a hosting provider we use for video.

It isnt made to be funny but it is a serious and accurate account of the incident. This video may I add was edited to ensure nothing graphic or unacceptable would be shown other than a car and the scene.

I think it is unfortunate that the person was still in the car but it is standard practice for the scene to be left how it is for many hours during an investigation. We also base our standards on TV and print news and there was nothing graphic visible in the footage. I also don't think it would be appropriate to wait at the scene for hours. That would also be making the emergency responders jobs harder so we leave as soon as possible.

The same exact report plus commentary is still on the major news networks such as WNEP and WBRE and it obviously made headlines in the Press Enterprise.

WNEP http://www.wnep.com/wnep-fatal-car-crash....0,6175797.story

WBRE http://pahomepage.com/content/fulltext/?cid=117842

Unfortunately this isnt the first incident like this and it wont be the last. I hope that people will learn from this however they can.

I think that most young people think they are invincible and take unnecessary risks that may lead to tragedy. I know that when I was younger there was a lot of mistakes I made that could have ended in the same way as this unfortunate accident. I learned from them and the mistakes of others who were not so fortunate.

I know a lot of people are looking for someone to blame or take their pain out on, but myself and the reporters in this company are simply doing our jobs and reporting the news as every other news outlet in this area does every day.

I hope now that the video is removed you can focus on other things and that the healing process can begin. I also would like you to remember that we are not doing this because we have to but because we care.

I would also like everyone to try and be safer out there. I do not enjoy having to report on incidents like this but the news is unpredictable and unfortunately this will not be the end of tragic events such as this.

I'm not sure you understand, it's the fact that he's still in the car. If the video were of JUST the carnage, then it wouldn't have bothered so many people. A member of his family, whom I know and love, goes to Bloom U, as do MANY of his friends. They, like a lot of us BU Students, probably visit this site on a regular basis, to see what's up. If his 'sister' logged on and saw that, she'd be dealing with an entirely different hell. This whole video thing has just been completely disrespectful and asinine. Maybe, next time, you'll use your head, and maybe grow a heart. Put yourself in that families shoes, and in the shoes of all of those who knew him, went to school with him, participated in sports with him, and who knew and loved the ones he knew and loved. What should be a solemn time, and a time for reminiscing the many fond memories, has turned into nothing more than a hate fest, all because someone was heartless, careless, and hoping to bask in some glory for his great 'reporting' skills. I hope you understand that every part of what you did was so completely outrageous. And I think you owe an appology to everyone you offended, especially to his family. You're ignorant and completely narcissistic. I hope your proud of the additional heartache you've caused.

Leave it up to the REAL media to announce things to peoople if they need to. I hope you are f*#king proud of yourself, because we sure as hell ain't proud of you. I am really embarassed to be a BU student because of you. So will be other people if they find out about this. I am not going to pretend that I was best friends with Tony or anything, but he does NOT deserve this. Neither do his family or friends. Or anyone else who were good people and got killed in car crashes as well. Tony was a respected member of the community. He had lots of family and friends who loved him. It is bad enough that pictures or articles are posted, but videos?? NO!! Just no! Learn to show some f*#king respect! This isn't just disrepectful, it's also a violation of privacy.

Also I hope that you will get sued for this by Tony's family or anyone else, because you deserve it. I know I definitely would have sued if I had found out that my child was killed and there was a video about it on the internet!

This is so disrespectful and it makes me sick to my stomach that someone would have be so stupid to post this. His friends and family can see this video. I think whoever posted the video needs to think if they would like if they were in his families shoes and they had to see that. I flagged the video and I'm hoping it gets taken down. I think everyone needs to do the same.

Eric, that was by far the most distasteful thing I've ever witnessed. It is one thing to show a pic of the accident but to videotape like that is crossing ethical lines. It is one thing to be a reporter but that was completely uncalled for. How would you like it if someone did that to someone you love. Karma is gonna be a bitch to you. I just hope someone posts it on the internet so it can be seen by all.
